Police conducted 63 breath and drug tests during Operation Detect around the Lake Illawarra area on Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning.
A police statement says 14 drivers who returned a positive secondary drug test were issued 24 hour driving prohibition notices and further action may be taken against them after the results are analysed.
A dozen vehicles and 28 people were searched, resulting in the discovery of cannabis, ecstasy and ice, with supply charges likely to be laid in relation to the quantity of drugs discovered in two cases.
Inspector Darren Brown of Lake Illawarra police said these types of operations remind motorists that driving under the influence of prohibited drugs is not only illegal, it is highly irresponsible and dangerous.
“Local drug testing operations will continue and police will go on targeting drivers under the influence to try and avoid any further loss of life on our roads,” said Inspector Brown.
