The call was made at the final networking lunch of 2015 on Friday at the Lagoon Seafood Restaurant.
IWIB director Glenda Papac announced the awards would be held on April 29, 2016 at City Beach Function Centre.
“The Illawarra has some very innovative and determined businesswomen who are leading the way,” Mrs Papac said.
“The IWIB Business Women’s Awards give them the recognition they justly deserve.”
Categories for 2016 include Business Woman of the Year, Young Businesswoman of the Year, Best Business, Best Small Business, Best Home Based Business, Best New Business, Business Woman, Outstanding Commitment to the Community, Young Achiever, Outstanding Commitment to the Business Community and Champion Networker.
Mrs Papac said it was shaping up to be a big year for the business networking group.
The first lunch of the year on February 5, features Mark Bouris speaking on “What Really Matters”.
Mrs Papac said registrations and information about both events were on the www.iwib.com.au website.
Applications for the awards close on March 31.
