The project - overseen by local indigenous artist and founder of Saltwater Dreamtime Zachary Bennett- Brook - celebrates the culture of the local Aboriginal community and the Cougars club.
The mural was completed by students from both Woonona and Corrimal high schools under Bennett-Brooks guidance as a joint initiative with the Cougars club who have a long history of supporting their local community.
‘‘I was approached by Corrimal and Woonona High to come up with something that represents the indigenous area where we meet here and the Corrimal Cougars football club as well,’’ Bennett-Brook said.
‘‘We came up with three main concepts that we can see in the mural and we just let the students go for it.
‘‘What we can see now is the hard work from Corrimal and Woonona High students who’ve managed to come up with a really beautiful mural.’’
Cougars president Dave Adams said the club was thrilled with the final product that is the first step in a wider community-led revitalisation plan for Ziems Park.
‘‘The schools loved the concept and it’s something we’re working really hard at to engage with our local community,’’Adams said.
‘‘We have a huge history of indigenous players playing for this club and playing into the top level.
“We need to celebrate that and celebrate the club. We couldn’t be happier with it.”
