Hot and windy conditions are forecast, prompting a total fire ban for the region and the Shoalhaven.
Temperatures will warm to 32 degrees in Wollongong and 35 at Albion Park.
By 9am, it was already 30.5 degrees inland and 29.7 at Bellambi Point.
The fire ban, issued by the NSW Rural Fire Service, covers the Illawarra/Shoalhaven (Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Wingecarribee, Wollondilly and Wollongong local government areas).
Under a total fire ban, no fires can be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.
Gas and electric barbecues may be used, provided certain conditions are met.
