Professor Keneally visited the University of Wollongong (UOW) to help Professor John Glynn and Associate Professor Grace McCarthy, of the Faculty of Business, launch a new initiative that will help achieve gender equity in MBAs and senior executive positions.
“This partnership is all about providing pathways for women to earn an MBA as part of their journey into senior management positions,” Prof Glynn said.
UOW’s Sydney Business School is offering 50 Women in MBA scholarships during the next five years. It wants to encourage more businesswomen to continue their studies. So it is partnering with businesses to identify and support women through an MBA..and remove any barriers.
It coincides with CEO Magazine naming UOW’s MBA program the best in Australia.
The Women in MBA program includes matching financial support from the university. SBS is one of five Australian business schools who are together offering 320 women MBA scholarships.
Prof Keneally said presently business schools only had around 30 per cent women. They are enrolling at a much lower rate and she was invited to help identify reasons and find a solution.
“This is very much about providing financial support..providing career planning and mentoring and providing flexibility in the workplace and acknowledgement that these employees are taking on that study commitment,” she said.
