Earlier: The Maddens Plains fire between Bulli and Helensburgh continues to burn on Saturday morning but the M1 reopened late on Friday night with speed restrictions in place.
Traffic was moving well on Saturday morning but motorists are advised the road could close at any time at short notice if conditions change.
The Old Princes Highway remains closed in both directions.
A Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesperson said the fire had burnt more than 190 hectares.
“We had firefighters in the area working on the fires throughout the night conducting backburning operations,” the spokerperson said.
“That will continue to some extent this morning. They are presently working on containment strategies.”
There are far more favourable weather conditions today, according to the RFS.
“We still have 70 firefighters on the scene,” the spokesperson said.
A forecast of cooler temperatures and less wind is expected to aid the firefighting effort.
No homes are under threat and no property has been lost.
“The biggest concern on Friday was to cars travelling along the M1 Motorway,” the spokesperson said.
“That was closed in the early evening.”
