Islamic organisations from Wollongong and Sydney came together to hold the annual event at Stuart Park.
Middle Eastern foods and deserts were a hit with visitors and Ebru painting, calligraphy and henna drew interest.
Vocal groups and the Ottoman military band entertained at the day-long peace event.
Children weren’t disappointed with plenty of rides and sport activities, face painting and showbags on offer.
Islamic Society of Illawarra media officer Gary Ismail said world events had impacted on the local community ‘’so we need to do our bit to make sure that we foster peace’’.
‘’The festival gives the Islamic community a chance to get in contact with people from other faiths or no faiths who live in the wider Illawarra area,’’ Mr Ismal said.
‘’It is a chance for Muslims to break the ice and make that contact to talk with others to share the festivities.’’
