University of Wollongong’s iAccelerate chief executive and director of innovation and commercial research Elizabeth Eastland has described 2015 as an amazing year of engagement, traction and success.

Ms Eastland said the new iAccelerate Centre was on schedule for completion in May after securing $16.5million from the state government’s $100m Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund.
“We have hit all our construction milestones this year and are looking forward to a completion date in May 2016,” she said.
“The centre will be the lightning rod for innovation in the region and will provide a “state of the art” business incubation program and facilities to over 280 entrepreneurs and fast growth companies.”
Since iAccelerate was launched in 2012 it has provided assistance to 57 companies and helped create 119 startup jobs.
“We are supporting 28 startup companies in the iAccelerate Hub. Four resident companies have secured funding this year, six have expanded their international presence..and nine have new product launches.”
Ms Eastland said 46 per cent of iAccelerate startups had a female co-founder.
Meanwhile Omar Khalifa and Miranda Bond have been appointed as Entrepreneurs in Residence.
The Christmas function at the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus was co-hosted by iC Central, RDA Illawarra and ICTI.
