One person has died and two others were injured in a serious crash on Appin Road this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of the road about one kilometre south of Appin after two vehicles collided about 3.50pm today (Friday), a NSW Police spokesman said.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said initially three people were trapped in the wreckage.
She said one person died in the smash and two others were freed and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The spokeswoman confirmed it was one of two car crashes on Appin Road this afternoon but said the other incident was less serious.
A Campbelltown police spokesman said traffic diversions were in place and motorists should expect delays.
He urged drivers to avoid the area.
The road is currently closed in both directions and is expected to be closed for some time.
A spokesman for the NSW Transport Management Centre advised heading travelling between Campbelltown and the Illawarra region to use Picton Road instead.
