Police said the man had made a number of threats against the 34-year-old this week, including demands for money.
Although the younger man had initially complied with the demands, police were alerted when the threats continued, a spokesman said.
About 12.30pm yesterday, police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command arrested the 43-year-old in Shoalhaven Street, Kiama.
He was charged with robbery in company, demanding property with menace with intent to steal, and intimidation with the intention of causing fear or physical harm.
He faced Wollongong Local Court today and was refused bail. He will reappear on November 23.
