A detailed severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for part of the Greater Wollongong area, with damaging winds and large hail forecast to hit the region on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology says that, at 3.05 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near High Range, Hill Top, Lake Nepean and the area just east of Bowral.
“These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Bargo, Buxton and the area south of Wilton by 3.35pm and Appin, Picton, Lake Cataract and the Nattai Tablelands by 4.05pm,” the warning said.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning for large hail, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds is also current for the Illawarra.
