Their newly created company Illawarra on Pointe will put together a full production of The Nutrcracker featuring the musical works of Tchaikovsky.
Mr Gillen, 22, said combining a full orchestral section with around 30 to 40 dancers hadn’t been done before in the Illawarra.
He said while the Russian and Australian ballet companies had toured they did so with backing tracks.
The Illawarra Performing Arts Centre has a sunken pit for musicians, only at the expense of the first row of seats – dropping capacity to 485.
Music teacher Mr Zingel, 27, is also a former dancer having worked professionally in the past, and will choreograph the entire production.
They’ll be auditioning for roles in the show on February 20th and 21st and encourage local dancers from the region aged 16 and above to apply. For more info email illawarraonpointe@gmail.com
