Wollongong City Council has rolled out stencilled LOOK signs across the city to remind pedestrians to look left, look right, and then left again before crossing the road. Across Wollongong eight per cent of crashes involve pedestrians, according to statistics from Transport for NSW, with people aged over 70 and children aged five to 16 the most likely to be involved. Council has stencilled 125 LOOK signs at key intersections, signals and pedestrian refuges in Wollongong, Corrimal, Dapto, Warrawong and Fairy Meadow, where high volumes of pedestrians cross. Wollongong road safety officer Naomi Reid said the stencils were a reminder for pedestrians to look for oncoming traffic before crossing the road.
