The Sandon Point Scorpions will have a club record 65 nippers taking part in the prestigious day to feature many of the best up-and-coming juniors.
Sandon Point Junior Club president Craig Penning said weeks of preparation will be rewarded.
“The board training we hold twice a week is really paying off,’’ he said.
‘‘We can see the kids improving in confidence and strength in the water to the point where they are keen to try a carnival.
‘‘They have made new friends at training and it’s great to see them enjoying the sessions.
‘‘They all want to cross the finish line first and hopefully take that confidence and spirit into the carnival.’’
Sandon Point have kids nominated in all age groups from under 8s to the u14s.
Club officials want the talented kids to get used to representing Sandon Point at carnivals on a regular basis.
The Illawarra Junior Development Carnival will feature 400 kids from 15 of the 17 Illawarra clubs, plus a team from the National Park club Era Surf Life Saving Club, along with Shellharbour, Warilla Barrack Point and Kiama Downs.
The IJDC has been generously supported by local and sports-related businesses with some of these companies having merchandise available on the day.
The carnival is also preparation for the Illawarra Junior Branch Championships at Towradgi on February 13.
