Orienteering is a sport which challenges the mind and body, is fun and promotes teamwork along with self-confidence. The Illawarra Kareelah Orienteering Club serves orienteerers in the Illawarra and South Coast.

The opening event of the SummerGong Series is February 7 at Stuart Park, North Wollongong from 10am-11.30am with anyone interested in orienteering welcome.

 The other events are on February 14 at Sandon Point Reserve, (corner of Point and Blackall Streets, Bulli); MacCabe Park, Wollongong on February 21 and Flagstaff Hill Park, Endeavour Drive on February 28.

Points will be accumulated over the 4 weeks of the challenge with the highest scorer who is not a  member of an orienteering club to be offered a free one year membership at the Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers.

Last year’s winner is now a keen orienteer and will be setting the courses for the third event in this series.

Also for small children, there will be a short course in the park where they will be visible at all times.

Both courses will have specially prepared maps supplied with the control locations already marked on them.

The SummerGong Series is open to the general public but is also ideal preparation before the annual South Coast Schools Orienteering Championships on May 18 for Years 5 and 6 at Croom Sports Complex.
