Skydivers world leaders in social media

Skydive the Beach Sydney became a world leader in social media at the weekend by reaching 30,000 likes on Facebook, making it the largest skydiving Facebook page by more than 20,000 likes.

The achievement by the Wollongong-based business founded by Anthony Boucaut makes it a leader in social media in its field.

The closest competition comes from Skydive Chicago with just over 9700 likes.

The Skydive the Beach team has made a concerted effort to increase their social media presence over the past two years.

Facebook likes for the home-grown business, which has expanded its customer base to the Hunter and Victoria in recent years, has doubled in the past year.

A key marketing strategy is the use of Facebook to engage with past and future customers and encourage visitors to Wollongong to experience the extreme activity.

Marketing manager Courtney Butler said the success of the company's Facebook page lay in its ability to combine fun promotions with encouraging customers to post about their experiences for others to see.

"The Skydiver Wants a Wife competition and posts such as 50 Shades of Fear all add to the likeability of the page," she said.
