After showcasing the region’s music history at a three-month exhibition at the Wollongong Art Gallery in 2014 and founding the Steel City Sound website in 2000 which chronicles Wollongong’s music history, Warren aka Waz, is one of the most passionate people I’ve met when it comes to promoting live music in our beloved city.
This year, Waz has set his sights on helping to promote live music around The Gong by organising more live music nights starting with a live show coming up at Jane’s Bar later this month.
The show will see Wollongong rockers The Dark Clouds perform alongside Blackbreaks from Katoomba and Sydney headliners The Mis-Made.
The Mis-Made are an all-female hard rock band from Sydney’s inner-west whose members were previously part of Nitocris and Bitchslap.
Nitocris made quite a name for themselves in the late 90’s and early 2000’s across the Aussie Music Scene and achieved some great milestones including by supporting Deep Purple and performing at the main stage at the Big Day Out festival.
Bitchslap did well with two EP releases Eat Me and Give Me My Life Back as well as touring through the UK, Europe and across Aus.
It was Nitocris’s singer/songwriter and lead guitarist Jess Finlayson who made the move to form the new outfit The Mis-Made in 2012 by uniting with lead singer/guitarist from Bitchslap Jess Coram and forming as their bio states “a duo from hell”.
The Blackbreaks, who are also taking the stage at Jane’s later this month alongside The Mis-Made and The Dark Clouds, are now just wrapping up their double headline singles tour which saw the band tour along the east coast alongside The Mis-Made to promote new releases from both bands. The Wollongong show will be their last show of the tour.
Representing Wollongong, local legends The Dark Clouds will also be performing on the night and are earning quite a head-turning reputation with their socio-political brand of classic Aussie rock.
This show will be a cracker of a night so if you’re a fan of hard rock, rock’n’roll or just live music in general head out to Jane’s Bar in North Wollongong on Saturday, February 27.
Doors open at 7pm and tickets are $10 available at the door ($5 for concession).
