From the time Bulli Showground opened for the first of the new fortnightly Eat Street markets, families and foodies started pulling up in droves.
Organiser Kirrily Sinclair said about 7,000 people attended the Saturday market, causing most stall holders to sell out by about 8.30pm.
“It was pretty busy,” she said. “There was a constant stream of people.”
The market is the fourth local offering from the Thirroul businesswoman, who started Foragers at Bulli Showground and has gone on to run markets in Crown Street Mall and Shellharbour.
The new Saturday night offering had developed at the request of hungry northern suburbs residents, she said, who love the “community connections” of eating outdoors.
“We wanted this to be a slight variation of our other markets, so the same stallholders but with different things so we’re not just rehashing the same thing,” she said.
“So we had the gozleme stall but they did different types of Turkish foods, and one of our favourite, Hummus Bar, did veggie burgers.
“People also really loved being able to have a glass of wine. It was just really humming the whole time.”
