Police charged Spodra Williams and her 22-year-old son Jerome, with failing to get development approval from Wollongong City Council to host what they allege was a dance party on the family’s 48-acre property in Baines Place last April.
It is understood the charges relate mainly to structures put in place for the party – allegedly a toilet, stage area and lighting.
As part of the case, police also allege Jerome Williams was charging an entry fee for the event, which apparently attracted up to 600 people.
However, Spodra Williams denied the charges against she and her son in court on Thursday, saying the party had been a 21st birthday celebration.
“My son had a party on my property with my permission,” she said.
“He mowed grass, put mulch down and there were some crates set up and fairy lights put in gum trees.
“It was a private party on private property.”
The case was adjourned to next month for the family to seek legal advice before formally entering a plea to the charges.
