Skip Gary Taylor and his former Shellharbour clubmates Tony Sekuloski (lead), Geoff Burke (second) and Geoff Christie (third) are the Zone 16 Fours champions after winning five games, including three by a shot.
Sekuloski and Christie are grades 4 and 5 pennant bowlers, while Taylor and Burke will play in Warilla’s second Grade 1 side in 2016 after last year being part of the Gorillas Grade 2 side which won the Zone 16 flag and then the State title.
‘‘We would have been 10,000/1 outsiders at the start so to come through and win it is incredible,’’ Taylor said.
The Warilla team began their run to the title with a last end 21-20 win in round two and won two mores games to qualify for last Saturday’s semi-finals.
Taylor and partners then edged out Towradgi’s Pete Bonsor (subbing for skip Guy Vozza) 18-17 before beating Jack Forbes’ Corrimal side 20-19 in an thrilling decider.
Warilla were clinging to a four shot lead heading into the last end only for the Corrimal team – and many greenside supporters – to ponder if Corrimal had picked up a four to take the match into an extra end.
But a measure for Corrimal’s fourth shot was just a few millimetres short and Warilla had won the crown.
Jack Forbes’ rink also had a terrific fours championship and beat Graeme Archer’s Figgy Bowlo team 23-18 in their semi-final.
