Marlin have been thick with plenty of boats reporting multiple captures, and the “humps” off Bass Point and the Sir John Young Banks have all fired over recent days with both areas looking like a boat car park.
The bait schools are the key, sound them, jig and rig a livie and mooch around the edges and the billies will find you.
There's room to move on Lake Illawarra with the holidaymakers gone home and the good news is the fishing is still good or even better, with some nice flathead in the 40 to 50cm being caught around the drop-off and main channel.
The crabs are on, but a word of caution - don’t leave your traps or nets unattended for too long or drift too far out of sight as a few anglers have had traps either stolen or raided recently.
South Coast Fishing Clubs Association will hold the beach comp this weekend with weigh-in at Oaks Hotel, Oak Flats on Sunday.
Tomorrow all game fishing eyes will be on the Shellharbour ramp area with the running of the 15th annual Shellharbour Game fishing tournament with a strong emphasis on tag and release to preserve game fish stocks.
Saturday will include a cash shootout in conjunction within the tournament. The committee has received a massive list of prizes from numerous sponsors including K & R Fabrications, Warilla Bowling Club, SpliceTech, MDS Foods Warilla and Gerringong Print.
