These comments come despite confirmation a proposed $35 million 54-room hotel for the Riverhaven Motel site on the Shoalhaven River announced in 2013 would not go ahead.
“The developers have walked away from that project at this stage because it was unviable, so I would say it has gone by the board,” Cr Gash said.
“But that development group has not gone away, they are looking at other areas within the city.”
Cr Gash said there were more announcements of large projects for the area to come.
“The lodging of a development application for a $9.2 million, 32-unit block for Graham Street is exciting,” she said.
“Developers are coming to see us [council] asking for land to develop.
“Council needs to have a serious look in regards to where it will open up next. We need to satisfy developers requests. If not they will go elsewhere.”
Cr Gash said there was a number of other projects “in the pipeline”.
It is understood council will have further discussions with company Derbury Pty Ltd, which has proposed a redevelopment of the Egans Lane area on Tuesday.
Rumours also abound council may offer for sale two of its high profile locations.
Council is relocating its Tourist Information Centre from its current location in Pleasant Way to the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.
That would leave part of the former Nowra Bomaderry Leagues Club building vacant.
Although not confirming the site could go on the market, Cr Gash said council would have to decide what to do with the building.
“We have to look at all options,” she said.
“The visitor centre is being moved and it will be some time until the Nowra Gateway Park is constructed. We will have other tourist outlet locations.
“But council will have to decide what to do with the site. It is a wonderful site for something and council must consider its options.”
It is also understood the land north of the current city administration building, once earmarked for a multi-storey and multi-million dollar hotel development by Sydney company Huscorp may also be placed on the market.
“While not on the market, the site is DA approved to have a hotel or whatever else on the site,” Cr Gash said.
“However, at the moment we don’t know how much of that land might have to be utilised by the RMS for the proposed new crossing of the Shoalhaven River.
“We have been told the preferred location for the next crossing is to the western side of the current bridge but they can’t tell us anything about underpasses or overpasses or associated roadworks.
“We don’t know how much land the RMS will have to take for the associated roadworks.
“There certainly is interest in the location but we have to wait for the RMS.”
