The first Wollongong Venue Hop on March 4 involves musicians supporting other musicians by following a trail of live music venues such as Humber, Howlin’ Wolfe, Red Square and Jane’s.
The concept is the brainchild of Claire Roberts, of HiViz Event Management & Promotions, who is a musician herself and wants others like her and music fans to join in supporting local talent and local venues that hire them.
“One of the best things we can do to keep venues booking musicians is to patronise them...so this is the inaugural Wollongong Venue Hop,” she said.
Ms Roberts has been talking to venues who have live, mostly acoustic music and organised a walking tour to support them.
She is being helped by other musicians such as Rachel Lin and Glen Bowker. If Wollongong is a success they will expand the idea to other centres such as Kiama. They may even consider hiring a bus for the music trail in locations where the venues are not close together.
The plan is to run a Wollongong Venue Hop music trail once a month and visit live venues when local artists are playing. Details about the March 4 live music tour can be found on Hiviz Events Facebook page.
