Catholic Mission deputy national director Peter Gates said the February 25 event provided people with an opportunity to answer Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to enter into a new dialogue toward building a better future.
‘’In this Year of Mercy, the Francis Effect II colloquiums provide a chance for leaders and staff within parishes, Catholic education and the wider Church to discern together a response to the cry of the earth and the cry of the ‘’poor’’,’ Mr Gates said.
The Catholic Diocese of Wollongong and the Catholic Education Office, Wollongong will host The Francis Effect II: Praised Be You — On Care for our Common Home colloquium at St Mary Star of the Sea College Hall. Renowned Catholic eco-theologian Father Denis Edwards will give the keynote address.
The Wollongong event will also feature an interactive Q&A and dialogue session, real life stories of how the encyclical is lived out in local communities, and a workshop for all participants to further their understanding of the historic document and its implications.
‘’It is a discussion on how to incorporate Pope Francis’ vision, as it is expressed in Laudato Si’ into our own lives,’’ said Mr Gates. ‘’Pope Francis’ challenge to respond to God’s call for an ecological conversion is addressed to all people, and has captured the attention of both the Catholic and secular worlds.
‘’This colloquium in Wollongong will assist participants to explore Pope Francis’ vision, offering inspiration and practical ideas for caring for our Common Home—in our lives, at work and in our communities.’’ All registrants will receive a complimentary copy of the new book.
