CORRIMAL issued a statement of intent to one of their main premiership rivals with a comprehensive away thrashing of Helensburgh in round 10 of the Illawarra premiership.

Two rounds out from the semi-finals the Cougars took a huge step to sealing the minor premiership by dismissing the strong Burgh batting line-up for just 111, chasing 172.
Xavier McDevitt took 3-24 off 18 overs, while Aaron McElhinney (3-28), Peter Kilby (2-7) and Ryan Hunter (2-27) all bowled well.
‘‘That’s the best team bowling display of the season given who were playing,’’ Corrimal skipper Joe McDevitt said.
‘‘We took our catches, something they didn’t do and all the bowlers really stepped up. We’ve got a big weekend coming up for the 125th year so it’s great to beat one of our big rivals.’’
Meanwhile, sixth-placed University beat second-placed Keira at Uni Oval, but missed out of an outright after 21 wickets fell on day two.
The Students (203) dismissed Keira for 148, then posted 8/117 (Murray Crowe 41) in their second dig to leave the Lions to make 173 off around 32 overs.
Keira lost early wickets then had a late dash at the target but finished 8/155. Neel Honavar made 72 and Rhys Voysey took 3-33.
Uni picked up seven points, but are seven points behind fourth-placed Helensburgh.
Balgownie moved to third after medium-pacer Jason Bunyan (4-58) and skipper Jamie Fleming (4-46) bowled an incredible combined 74 overs to lead the premiers to a tight 31-run win over Northern Districts.
Resuming 1/34 chasing 208, the Butchers were 1/113; but the dismissals of skipper Matt Salakas (61) and Jacob Hand (39) turned the game.
Dapto remain fifth after a three wicket win over Wests at Figtree Oval.
Resuming at 3/69, still needing another 124 for victory, Asham Wanigaratne (92) went on with the job, supported by 15-year-old Jye Phillips (38no) and Pat Hammond (24no).
Oscar Oborn-Corby and Matt Cram took three wickets each for Wests.
‘‘We haven’t lost a two-dayer all season but still aren’t in the top four,’’ Dapto skipper Chris Georgiou said.
‘‘It’s frustrating with the washouts hurting us but we have to keep fighting.’’
Wollongong will almost certainly pass the wooden spoon onto Port Kembla after a 32 wicket win at North Dalton Park.
Port resumed at 8/70 chasing 177 and though they batted better on day two, were still dismissed for 142.
Sameer Murthy - who made 54 not out - took 4-27 and Arpit Rastogi 3-33. Wollongong were 4-43 in their second dig.
Port are nine points behind second-last Wollongong with two rounds to play.
