The former Kanahooka High School student was honoured just before tip-off at the near sell-out Illawarra Hawks’ final home game of the season.
Councillor Bradbery acknowledged the 19-year-old did the city proud when he won the reality talent quest and his positive contribution to the reputation of the region.
“It means everything to be able represent Wollongong … if it wasn’t for each and everybody here tonight and Wollongong as a whole I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said Villanueva.
At half-time the muso spurred on the home-crowd energy performing his new single “Keep Talking”.
