Emergency services were called to the intersection of Gipps and Flinders streets about 12.45pm on Saturday following reports of an accident involving young children.
One of the cars sustained front driver’s-side damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Ambulance NSW Illawarra duty operations manager Inspector Norm Rees said the occupants of one of the cars, a female driver and two children, had no obvious injuries and didn’t require transport to hospital.
The accident was the second at the busy highway intersection since Thursday, when a motorcycle and a car collided there.
A 26-year-old motorcyclist reportedly suffered a broken leg and fractured ribs in Thursday’s crash, which happened about 3.40pm and closed Flinders Street (the Princes Highway) southbound throughout the afternoon peak.
Debate has raged online about the need for a right-turn arrow for traffic entering Gipps Street from the highway, given the high volumes of traffic using the intersection.
