The students doing a joint course with the Faculty of Business at the University of Wollongong and TAFE Illawarra are holding their eighth annual corporate golf day at Port Kembla Golf Club on March 18 where the retired Dragons player will speak about his experiences with mental health.
The students have formed a company called True-Myth Events and Production and have chosen mental health to support because they know one in five people experience mental health issues every year.
They already have more than 20 business teams enter the golf day to help shine the light on mental health and raise funds for the Light and Hope Clubhouse in Wollongong. It helps people in the Illawarra with a mental illness.
Hunt accepted the invitation to join Platinum Sponsors IMB Bank and the Faculty of Business at the University of Wollongong. They all met at Pepe’s at the Beach on Thursday for an industry networking night for those who have supported the golf-day for many years. The evening allowed business leaders such as IMB Banks' Terry Widdicombe, University of Wollongong's Justin Norris and others to share their knowledge with the students.
"The Faculty of Business..is proud to be a platinum sponsor of the Corporate Golf Day 2016 and help raise funds that will assist the important work the Light and Hope Clubhouse does," Mr Norris said.
True-Myth member Rachael Reid said the students had been very busy networking, marketing, signing up teams and getting auction prizes for our event.
Fellow student Taysia Bell said they had gained valuable business relationships.
“This course has already opened up so many doors for me,” she said.
“Not only are we learning the academic side of event management, but we are also forming new business relations and gaining hands on experience.”
Sponsorship packages and individual golf and lunch packages are still available.
