With second spot up for grabs, Kookas resumed at 0/14 chasing 251 but were rolled for a season low 86.
Twyford took 5-41 and Ryan Chatterton 3-11, with both teams picking up three bonus points after the Rats declared 7-125 in their second dig with Kookas 4/64 in reply.
The Rats were without their skipper Michael Arblaster and Ben Mitchell playing for NSW Country against a touring New Zealand side, but the win gives them some breathing room from Kookas (third) with one round remaining.
The Rats have the final round bye (no points), while Kookas will be chasing an outright against bottom side Kiama.
It has been an unpredictable month for Oak Flats who after beating Kiama outright in one day, were beaten outright by Lake Illawarra and now have thumped Kookas.
‘‘It was great to bounce back and the bowlers did a fantastic job,’’ Rats stand-in skipper Kerry Penfold said.
‘‘Second innings was a bit like a 0-0 draw with three bonus points each but it was good win for our confidence. We might end up playing Kookas away in the semis but heading into the bye it was a very positive effort.’’
In the other game, lightening put an end to The Rail’s bid for an outright against a determined Kiama.
The Rail led by 48 runs on first innings, with Kiama 9/172 in their second dig, led by Nathan Barr’s fine 75. Dylan Rae took 3-20 for the Rail.
