Attempted robbery on Illawarra train: police

Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a man aboard an Illawarra train last night.

The 25-year-old victim was on a southbound train, travelling between Coniston and Unanderra, about 10.15pm when he was approached by another passenger.

The passenger threatened the victim with a knife and demanding he hand over money, according to police.

The 25-year-old refused and when the train stopped at Unanderra, he got off the train.

Lake Illawarra police are investigating the incident. 

They are searching for a male aged in his late teens or early 20s, of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance with a solid build.
