But the one grand bargain came with a catch. The house has to be relocated to another site to allow for construction of a brand new home at the 4 Terralong Street block. The new owner plans to move the 92 square metre house to his Jamberoo farm by the end of April. Ray White Kiama’s Terry Dawson said the vendors decided to sell the 1920s cottage as they couldn’t bear to demolish the period gem.
“They’re very happy that the home will stay in tact and stay in the area,” he said. Rumours the house was a childhood home of Orry-Kelly are unconfirmed and the house isn’t heritage listed. Kiama Historical Society’s Sue Eggins, said while there was proof Orry-Kelly lived at 4 Terralong St for some time after 1899, he didn’t live in that house. The vendors donated the $1000 from the sale to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. “It was a good outcome all round,” he said.
