Wollongong residents can expect a few bleary eyes and late starts on Monday morning, as NSW residents lose an hour of sleep this weekend with the start of daylight savings time.
The summer clock change usually falls on the Labour Day long weekend, giving early risers the chance to adjust to a later sunrise but this year’s early holiday means it’s back to the working week straightaway.
Clocks were officially put forward one hour at 2am this morning.
Most mobile phones and computers automatically switched to daylight saving time overnight.
While early birds may miss their bright 5.30am starts, the evening light will stretch until after 7pm today allowing more time for after work walks, sunset dinners and letting the kids enjoy the great outdoors.
Daylight saving time is observed in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, but not in Queensland, Western Australia or the Northern Territory.
