The University of Wollongong community is mourning the death of ‘’visionary academic’’ Professor Don Iverson, who paved the way for its medical school.
Professor Iverson spent almost 13 years at UOW and held a number of distinguished positions including Executive Director of the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI).
He’s also credited for his role in establishing Australia’s national breast cancer research program, and held numerous executive positions including teaching and research positions in Australia and North America. In 2014 he joined Swinburne University in Melbourne as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, Arts and Design.
Professor Iverson, who passed away last Friday, is survived by his wife Lynne and daughter Amelia.
