Patterson made the cut for Australia’s final squad to contest July’s World University Rugby Sevens Championship in Swansea.
“I’m pretty excited, it’s a bit surreal really,” the 23-year-old said.
“I didn’t think it would actually happen.
“I got the phone call while I was away at the NTL, I was so stoked when I got it.
“I gave it everything in all the trials and I thought I might be a chance if I did that, but I definitely wouldn’t say I was confident at all.
“There were some girls who had been to the [Commonwealth Games Federation Youth Game] and even a few who had part-time national contracts, so I wasn’t sure how I’d fit in.
“It’s amazing, I’m so pleased.”
The seventh World University Rugby Sevens Championship (WURSC) in Swansea will run from July 6-9 at the Swansea University International Sports Village (Great Britain).
