Over 21 events – including tours and exhibits – the Wollongong Heritage Festival will tell stories of some of the city’s prominent buildings, historical sites and notorious streets.
For instance, at Puckey’s Estate, visitors will be able to learn the story of Courtney Puckey from his “ghost”.
Puckey, whose ghost will be played by Michael Connor for the April 15 tour, bought Puckey's Estate in the early 20th century to construct a saltworks.
Remnants of his house, walls and jetty, and the cement base of the salt extraction tower, are still visible on the edges of the lagoon.
The heritage festival, which also features a range of community events in Bulli, Balgownie, Port Kembla, Dapto and Mount Kembla, will run from April 9 to May 29.
Details are available though Wollongong City Council’s website.
