A Coniston driver hooned through several quiet Balgownie streets, speeding onto the wrong side of the road before his vehicle spun out of control, gouged a kerb and landed on the footpath, a court has heard.
A concerned witness told police that Ryan David Hintz could have killed someone with his erratic driving as he skidded through several residential streets, leaving huge tyre marks on the road, Wollongong Local Court was told yesterday.
The 24-year-old, who pleaded guilty to the incident, was spotted speeding along Cabbage Tree Lane about 11.30am on February 12, a police statement before the court said.
He braked hard to give way to an oncoming vehicle but quickly accelerated again, causing the back of his car to fish-tail and the rear wheels to lose traction.
Hintz then rapidly accelerated as he travelled towards an intersection, braking heavily as he turned onto a nearby street. He then sped up again, crossing onto the wrong side of the road to overtake a car, the court heard.
Hintz eventually returned to the correct side of the roadway but failed to slow down to negotiate a tricky bend. His vehicle skidded out of control, crossing the road, before it spun across the street and hit the kerb, landing on a grassy footpath outside a house, the court was told.
Hintz yesterday pleaded guilty to negligent driving. Magistrate Michael Stoddart adjourned the matter to October 22 for sentence.
