The free comics and graphic novels festival will host cosplay competitions, rock’n’roll wrestling, the Sons of Obi Wan and cosplay celebrities Wiradjuri Wonder Woman Rae Johnston and Eve Beauregard across four venues.
“It’s got itself onto the comic circuit,” said Manager of Library and Community Services Jenny Thompson.
“We’ve got links now with Supernova, the big festival in Sydney, so we’re finding it brings people to Wollongong and introduces them to libraries in a new way.”
Festival-goers are encouraged to share their photos on social media with @wollongongcity using the hastags #comicgong or #CG2016.
Venues include Wollongong Town Hall, Wollongong Central Library, Wollongong Art Gallery and the Arts Precinct.
Meantime the current collection of graphic novels at Wollongong City Libraries has now grown into the thousands with separate junior, youth and adult categories.
Comic Gong is on May 14 at Wollongong Town Hall, City Library, Art Gallery and Arts Precinct. More here.
