Flooding dirty deeds
Having been flooded five times in the past 20 years because of incompetent work by the council it infuriates us ratepayers to see vital money diverted to cycle paths.

The months of inconvenience and cost to repair and replace the damage caused from 800mm of dirty floodwater I would love to inflict on the councillors and incompetent engineers at Wollongong council.

Clown car at a circus
Each morning I pause read the AEC advertisements with bemusement, as the tablecloth of Democracy, represented by Senate ballot paper for the next Federal election, is embroidered by yet more new and faux political parties whose proponents would have us believe that their entire political agenda is the name of their party.
On election day, most, if not all, will function only as preference forwarding addresses.
It's a lot like watching a clown car at a circus, as parties keep emerging, urged on by preference whisperer clowns, far more than could possibly fit into the most extensive vehicle of Democracy.
Before this year's political circus is over, I anticipate that readers of your newspaper will see notices for new parties like; The Unsafe Sex party, The Nick Xenophobe Party, The Archers and Animal Stalker's Party, The Liberal Labor Party, The Democratic Liberal Party, The Not Very Green Party, The Australian City Party and of course, that old time tested favourite, The Australian NIMBY Party.
Readers may care to keep and tick off this list as these parties emerge.

Poor state of beaches
With Shellharbour City Council closing access to the beach it simply allows vagrants to set up camp so they cannot be located.
Since September last year I have been waiting for the coastal zone management plan to be finalised which allows residents to have their input into the council’s number one asset which is our beaches and includes the surrounding dunes and vegetation.
Council clearly know that vagrants regularly camp at the beach but seem to do nothing about this issue even though they leave unwanted waste all around the camp sites which includes many bikes wheels, tyres, frames, corrugated Iron sheets, PMG concrete telecommunication lids and general bodily waste.
As part of clean up Australia I personally cleaned as much as I could and in doing so uncovered other campsites that are scattered amongst the thick vegetation at the back of the beach.
It must be free camping for all but it would be nice if these people could simply take away or just put their rubbish in a bin nearby.
I also noticed that the Shellharbour Surf Lifesaving was also broken into recently which may coincide with these new camp sites being set up
With council spending 50% of the budget on the City Hub and forgetting about the water mitigation issues that the City has had in the past I doubt that our poor beaches will be cleaned up any time soon.

Praise for hospital
I would like to thank the staff at Wollongong Public Hospital for their excellent care for my 96-year-old father in law this week in the cardiology ward and ED.
The nurses and doctors on his watch were caring, respectful, professional, patient and kind. Despite their busy schedule they took time to answer our questions thoroughly and provided updates each time we visited and even called his 91yr old wife at home to reassure her that her husband was ok.
I know our hospital gets bad press from time to time, so I wanted to express how grateful we are. Well done, we appreciate you all.
