Raine & Horne Kiama principal Steve Pryor said the three bedroom, three bathroom house at 127 Williams Road had so far drawn “vast interest” including a number of architects that were keen on taking a peek at the design from the inside.
Previous owners Maria and Peter Rose commissioned architects Tina Engleen and Ian Moore to build their unconventional dream home to suit their family’s lifestyle, capitalising on the stunning view and surrounds.
The Rose family bought the property for $215,000 in 1998, selling it in October 2002 – two years after the new construction was complete – for $1,050,000.
Mr Pryor expects current offers for the chic design to begin from the “high-end of $1 million”.
When entering the home, the first thing a visitor notices is the view of Pigeon-House Mountain to the south and the Illawarra coastline to the east including Werri Creek Lagoon and Seven Mile Beach.
The combination of glass, steel and concrete is nestled in the middle of a one acre rural block, sitting approximately 50 metres below the summit of Saddleback Mountain with close proximity to the lookout.
Engleen and Moore used a lightweight structure allowing them to lift the building off the ground in order to minimise its impact on the land, “promoting natural ventilation whilst being suspended over the symmetrical slope”.
A concrete bridge at ground level leads into the central living area. The parents and children’s zones are separated from this living space by service cores to the east and west respectively.
There are 800mm wide decks running the length of the house on both the north and the south which provide both sun shading and weather protection.
While the roof was also designed to overhang along its entire length to protect the extensive glass panel of facades from the weather.
Recent sales for Kiama include a four bedroom, one bathroom Victorian era home at 80 Bong Bong Road on a 1,024 sqm lot for $1.15 million.
Another snapped up last weekend was a three bedroom, two bathroom home built in 2004 at 41 Belvedere Street, sold for $1,065,000 – well over the estimated auction price.
The current median house price for Kiama is $711,000 with about 114 properties currently on the market.
