According to documents published on the Australian Securities Exchange, the Wollongong-based company broke its previous daily record for the number of tandem skydives into its home ground on December 30.
Up by 50 from the previous record, 286 people skydived into North Wollongong on the day before New Years Eve. And on both days of Valentines weekend this year the company delivered more than 1000 tandem jumps per day across all its drop zones.
The results also show Skydive the Beach is on track to more than double the yearly number of tandem jumps across its Australian and New Zealand drop zones by June 30. Up from 61,069 tandem jumps across all drop zones last year, the company forecasts it will make more than 130,000 tandem skydives this year.
The results include a six-month revenue of $24.5 million and a 242% increase in profits compared to the same time last year. They are the first full half yearly results since the 17-year-old debuted on the sharemarket in March 2015 and acquired five extra drop zones, taking its total to 16 across Australia.
Also contributing to strong growth, Skydive took its first steps into the global adventure tourism market in October – buying Queenstown drop zone Nzone for $15.5 million – and has acquired land in Queensland’s Mission Beach.
While the number of Skydive customers from Australia, Europe and North America continued to rise, the strongest growth was in the Asian demographic which leapt from from 6166 jumpers in 2014 to more than 11,000.
Also in the ASX documents, Skydive the Beach reported its Chief Operations Officer and director Tim Radford had suffered a serious head and spinal cord injury in February after he fell while walking in Queenstown.
Assistant chief operating officer Courtney Butler has assumed Mr Radford’s role in his absence.
CEO Anthony Boucaut says:
“This result reflects our strong underlying business and our successful execution of our corporate growth strategy. Nzone is another exciting addition to our footprint and we expect the full benefit [to be evident at the end of the financial year. We will continue to pursue further organic and acquisition opportunities in our pursuit to become the global leading tourism adventure company.”
