Naked intruder breaks in for shower: court

A young woman got a rude shock when she was confronted by a naked intruder, who later made his way into her shower during a home invasion in Warrawong, police said yesterday.

Wayne Jones is accused of breaking into the 22-year-old’s apartment in the early hours of yesterday morning and verbally threatening her before heading into her shower.

Police claimed Jones, 55, was naked when he smashed a window to gain entry to the woman’s Carlotta Crescent apartment about 1am, waking the woman.

Police alleged Jones threatened her but she managed to flee through the front door and sought refuge in a nearby flat.

When police arrived at the scene, they allegedly found Jones inside the woman’s shower.

He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra police station where he was charged with aggravated breaking and entering with intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

The Port Kembla man appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court yesterday but did not make an application for bail.

Defence solicitor Angela Melouney requested Jones be treated in custody for a range of mental and physical health issues.

Ms Melouney told the court her client suffered from depression and was taking medication for his blood pressure and cholesterol.

The court heard Jones also had a heart condition and was taking sleeping tablets.

Magistrate Ian Guy formally refused Jones bail and adjourned the matter to November 21.

A crime scene was secured at the woman’s home yesterday.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries.
