After the Windies completed a stunning hat-trick of world titles at this year World Twenty20 event in India, with their under-19, women's and men's teams all being crowned champions, the Caribbean was full of smiles and a sense of optimism replaced the stench of mediocrity and apathy which had surrounded West Indies cricket for some time.

But that goodwill and unity seems to have evaporated with Dottin publicly lamenting the gap in pay which saw the Windies' men pocket $US 1.6 million for beating England in the final and the women only take home $US100,000 for their triumph over Australia.

"Barbados does not really give sportspeople – and from my point of view, women – the recognition and respect they need," Dottin told Barbados Today online.

"We were actually world champions, and a lot of people feel we getting all of this big money and the payment is equal to the men. That is not so.

"In order for cricket to be better, you need to treat everybody as one. You can't treat the men at a high level and the women at a much lower level. You (women) only have the fame and the name.

"We women need to be treated way better than we are being treated – money-wise and respect. Regional male cricketers make more money than West Indies women in cricket."

The West Indies Cricket Board pays their women on retainer contracts between $1500 and $3000 a month while their male counterparts earn anywhere between $100,000 and $150,000 a year.

Dottin said she might have to find another job and treat cricket as a part-time occupation if there wasn't an improvement.

"This sort of treatment would discourage anybody from playing cricket. Right now, as a person who plays cricket full-time and loves cricket, I am looking for something else to do," she said.

"And if what I choose to do brings me more income and makes life better for me, I will play cricket part-time. They will not get my full dedication anymore."
