Organisers, and the estimated 25,000 people who will descend on the Illawarra Regional Airport for the annual airshow this weekend, will be watching the weather.  

Last year’s event was cancelled after rain rendered the airfield unsafe. In 2014, winds of up to 100km/h grounded flying displays. 

After a run of sunny days this week, the weekend’s weather isn’t quite so dry.

Morning rain is expected on Saturday, and showers are set to linger on Sunday, but event organiser Kerry Bright remained upbeat. 

“A little bit of rain doesn’t stop the flying display at all,” she said. 

“The only thing that stops it would be wind and the wind’s looking perfect.”

The weather bureau has predicted light winds on Saturday with a 70 per cent chance of 1-3mm.

There’s a 60 per cent likelihood of 2-8mm falling on Sunday.
