The Dogs got out to a 4-0 lead through a try to Heath L’Estrange before the first of three tries to Matt Johnstone gave the Canaries a 6-4 lead at the break. Johnstone’s second soon after the resumption gave Dapto a 12-4 buffer and when he burrowed over for his hat-trick soon after the Canaries looked to be cruising at 16-4. However tries to Blake Phillips and Greg Davis 10 minutes from fulltime locked things up with neither side able to find a go-ahead try.
Wests were also impressive in their grand final rematch with Helensburgh overturning a 10-0 halftime deficit to run out winners 30-16. Ben Ryan and Jarrod Boyle both crossed for the Tigers in the first half before a hat-trick to Taiolo Vaivai and tries to Marty Cramp, Hayden Carpenter and Wadde Standford overhauled the deficit in the second.
CORRIMAL also returned to form at home in Saturday’s battle of the beaches, downing Thirroul 18-0.
