MP Gareth Ward said Illawarra Business Chamber chief Debra Murphy, RMB Lawyers partner Craig Osborne and the University of Wollongong’s Director of Advancement Monique Harper-Richardson would join the panel, along with three representatives from NSW Government agencies.
Up to $2 million is available the first round of the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund, which will then dole out $1 million a year over 99 years to “enhance, reactivate or build community amenity” in Port Kembla.
Organisations or projects seeking at least $10,000 and up to $500,000 can apply for the first lot of money until May 31, with successful projects to be announced in July.
Meantime, two Wollongong councillors have submitted motions about the Port Kembla fund to be debated at next week’s council meeting.
Labor councillor Ann Martin has proposed the council start a new program to help residents and businesses prepare applications for the fund. She said the council needed to play “a pivotal, supportive and strategic role to ensure the maximum benefit for the local Port Kembla community, and the overall community of Wollongong”.
Bede Crasnich has asked councillors to thank Mr Ward for helping secure the fund and pass on the council’s recognition to the Premier.
