Council has lodged a development application for the $500,000 proposal which includes the construction of a weather protected waste transfer facility with a concrete floor drop off area and associated works including minor road and drainage upgrades.
The West Nowra Recycling and Waste Facility in Flatrock Road, is owned and operated by Shoalhaven City Council and is the major recycling and waste facility in the Shoalhaven.
It is council’s only remaining mixed waste landfill site.
The application states the existing transfer station requires redevelopment due to maintain compliance with NSW EPA's Guidelines for the Design and Operation of Waste Transfer Stations.
The current waste facility has issues relating to traffic management, fall hazards, insufficient separation of workers and customers and poorly designed resource recovery options.
The proposed development will increase safety for both customers and workers and maximise resource recovery.
Construction will include a 35m x 20m shed for waste transfer operations with concrete half walls and steel roofing, the installation of 10 concrete recycling bays, road preparation and construction and drainage installation.
