The Illawarra should brace for wild weather as a low pressure system crosses the coast today.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for areas stretching from the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Tablelands to the Snowy Mountains.
The bureau is expecting thunderstorms and heavy rain which may lead to flash-flooding, with damaging winds of around 60km/h and peak gusts of 100km/h.
People are advised to stay away from beaches due to dangerous surf conditions.
The State Emergency Service has warned residents to move vehicles under cover and away from trees, secure any loose items in and around homes, and keep clear of fallen trees and power lines.
