The stage musical is based on the smash hit 1977 film of the same name.
The show features a score comprised of Bee Gees favourites, including hits such as Stayin’ Alive.
Roo Theatre’s artistic director Josif Jovanovski is pulling the reigns on this production as director, with choreography by Lyndell Farmer-Smith.
The music side of the production has been handled by Paul Hamilton, Aaron Kernaghan and the show’s leading man, Blake Kovac.
Kovac is a 21-year-old UOW student.
“Blake had no intention of auditioning for the show, but during the audition process I had him read in parts for other people, and from the get-go I knew he was our Tony,” Jovanovski said.
Jovanovski’s vision was to “punch audiences in the face” with a true grasp of reality.
“It’s very hard to take a musical theatre piece for anything other than some light entertainment, however Saturday Night Fever isn’t your classic Broadway show with big Broadway numbers, it’s real,” he said.
The show contains some coarse language and adult themes. It opens on Friday at 7.30pm and runs until May 28. Bookings: 4297 2891.
