On Thursday ANZ angel Vi Blazevska was almost speechless and left shaking by the enormity of what he fitness gym was doing.
Ms Blazevska has been an angel collector for the annual Angels at Work fundraiser for six years and this year is the ambassador after surviving cancer herself. She was diagnosed in 2014.
Definition Fitness helped her recover her mobility after three months in hospital and she has never forgotten what they did.
But now they have used their friendship with the cancer survivor, who is like a member of the Definition family, to help others by raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation to help more people in the Illawarra affected by blood cancers and their families.
“We have been a big fan of their work for a long time and when we saw Vi on board we wanted to help out as much as we could so we came up with an idea of challenging ourselves at what we do here in the gym and raise money at the same time,” Mr Knust said.
“We combined what we love to do to help Angels at Work. We have raised $2600 at the moment. Our target if $5000. We are fundraising the whole month. We have waved our membership here at the gym and so it is just a $49 donation to Angels at Work. Anyone who signs up here is making a donation to the charity as well. We are just doing everything we can because Vi has been a good friend and member of ours for a long time. She does personal training with my fiance Natalie.”
All six members of the Definition team got physical for the cause on Thursday.
“The challenge we have set ourselves is to squat 10,000 kilos each to make up a total of 60,000 kilos,” Mr Knust said.
“We needed to do 20 sets to make up the 60,000 kilos.”
The team was cheered on by friends and family as well as Ms Blazevska herself and Leukaemia Foundation regional manager Nina Field.
A video of the squat challenge and Ms Blazevska’s challenge is attached to this story.
Among those involved on Thursday were Luke Rollinson, Natalie Gerada, Sally Bassuni, Kim Byrne, Dylan Mena, Justin Andari and Mr Knust.
Angels will be hitting the streets around Wollongong around 9am on Friday.
