With the help of Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery, Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh and IWIB director Glenda Papac, she is encouraging people to post photos of the city on social media using #sirrichardbransonvisitsthegong.
She stepped up the campaign by taking a cardboard cut-out of Sir Richard around the Wollongong foreshore and even managed to get some lifeguards involved. In coming days Ms Burling will be inviting people to post a short iPhone video of what they love about The Gong and why he should come and check it out while he is in Sydney.
Cr Bradbery said one drawcard for Sir Richard Branson could be that Wollongong is the City of Innovation. Mr Sleigh said there were many things for the international adventurer to do and see such as Seacliff Bridge and Skydive the Beach. Speaking from his hospital bed where he has been treated for brain cancer for 12 months Graham Wilson said it would mean a lot to him if his Wollongong song could be used.
The local entertainment icon said he too would love to meet Sir Richard.
If you have a photo or some words to say about Wollongong please post them here or on social media generally using the hashtap #sirrichardbransonvisitsthegong .
